CityChlor defines 4 work packages:

  1. Review and integration
    Work package 1 aims at delivering the central output of CityChlor, the “Integrated Approach for Contaminated Sites Management”. This is meant to be a holistic risk management approach for chlorinated solvents in the urban environment, facilitating urban redevelopment and matching the needs of a sustainable urban development.

  2. Characterization techniques
    Work package 2 supports the Water Framework Directive/Groundwater Directive (WFD/GWD). Including implementation by testing, verification and developing best practice for monitoring and characterization technologies. Meeting the requirements set by the “prevent and limit” objective of WFD Art. 4 and GWD Art. 6 for industrial pollution at local and regional level. A correct characterization allows to take the necessary measures to prevent and to limit further damages to the environment.

  3. Remediation techniques
    Work package 3 focuses on techniques for remediation of chlorinated solvent pollution. The actions will consider the dual approach of source and plume in the urban environment.

  4. Social and economical aspects
    Work package 4 that aims at creating a social, financial and economical solid base for policymakers, cities, professional experts and other stakeholders to implement the new integrated approach in Northwestern Europe. It tackles the social and economical aspects that are related to soil and groundwater remediation.
